Aztec Ruins NM & Durango, CO

March 18 & 19, 2022



The drive to Durango, CO from Albuquerque is quite scenic. Along the way we took a short stop at the Aztec Ruins National Monument.

After driving thru a neighborhood, I wasn’t expecting much… But the park was free, and we checked out the museum to get the scoop before walking the stone ruins of the old village. It reminded me of Chaco Canyon, and since that wasn’t on the agenda (a 25 mile rutted road to it was mostly why),

I was glad we found this place. The 3 story stone buildings built 900 yrs ago are a sight of wonder, and they let you go into most of the intact ruins!

The Pueblo people even added design rocks into their buildings!

From there we enjoyed the cute mountain town of Durango, with it’s happening little downtown and river.
