Glaciers, lakes, and waterfalls, oh my!

Rocky Mountain National Park, Saturday, Sept 11

Glacier Gorge Trailhead

Now that we are camped outside the park, we had to be diligent at 5pm the day before to call and score a last minute "timed entry permit" for Rocky Mtn NP. We are back in the park before 8AM, but are still too late to grab a parking spot and so resorted to the park&ride shuttle. We planned a long day of lakes & views from Glacier Gorge trailhead, and 11.5 miles

later, we felt strong, accomplished, and in need of a beer. It being Saturday, the park was quite busy, and it took some effort to get a pic without some colorfully clad hiker messing up the shot…

I thought the first lake was my favorite, but the next was better, and so on it went. Mills Lake first, then the Loch - with the Sharkstooth peak and Andrews glacier as backdrops. From there we made a loop that took us to Haiyaha Lake (which turned out to be the fave for the day), then Dream Lake, Nymph Lake, and finally ending up at Bear Lake again. Along the route we also hit a few waterfalls, including Alberta Falls, Glacier Falls, and Timberline Falls in the distance. My advice for Rocky Mtn NP is don't bother seeking out the waterfall trails; this place is all about the lakes!
