Sept 14 & 15, 2021

1,322 miles

We do have California plates, so don’t want to push the speed limit here in the middle country. On the lookout for very tall birds, but think we are a little early for the Sandhill & Whooping crane migration south. Passing for sale signs on cornfields for $1.50 per pound, and more big rig trucks on the road than hay bales in the fields. Yes, we are in Nebraska, and headed for an Audubon bird sanctuary.

Hearing at the Rowe bird sanctuary that the cranes fly well overhead and do not stop along the Platt river on their way south, we tested the waters and vowed to

come back during a spring to see them.

Somewhat long drive day today, and an even longer one tomorrow before we make the distance between Denver and Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat Lakeshore.

We are leaving Tuesday, the 21st, for Arkansas and the Ozarks for a short trip and some motorcycle riding. Looking forward to being on the open road again.
