The Overlook Hotel..

I mean, the Stanley Hotel… Stephen Kings setting for The Shining, Sadly he didn’t approve of Stanley Kubrick‘s adaptation of the book for the movie.

Two nights in a row we dropped in to have dinner and look around the Hotel. We were greeted by a huge 14 point buck elk chasing his ladies about the grounds. We made friends with the hotel tour guide and got some good inside info. He told us the Hotel is trying to recreate the hedge maze from The Shining, but the elk keep eating the shrubbery! They finally had to put a fence around the maze to get it to grow. Stacey & I tried the maze, but it was too easy to see over it for where to go..

The guide also told us about Stephen King getting stuck in the hotel during a snowstorm, on the the hotels closing day for the season. After some wrangling for the presidential suite, and some sheets, Stephen was said to have enjoyed the selection of 1300 whiskeys the bar has in stock. Hence The Shining story was born.
